Several of Jitish Kallat’s works have drawn analogies between the idea of sustenance, the body and the distant cosmos. This interlacing of the celestial and the infinite with the everyday links Preamble 2 (2013) to earlier works such as  the single-channel video titled Forensic Trail of the Grand Banquet (2009), the large photo-installation titled Epilogue (2010-11) and later works such as Sightings (2015-ongoing).

In Preamble 2 (2013) the lenticular surface carries both the image of the roti as well as its visual negative image. Seen up-close, the negative of the roti seems to reveal a telescopic glimpse of the universe or an illuminated surface of an astral body, contemplating the macro as manifesting within the micro.
