Rain Study (The Hour of the Day of the Month of the Season)

2016 – 2018
installation view, Sperone Westwater, New York

Rain Study (the hour of the day of the month of the season) is a series of drawings that resemble star fields and other astronomical imagery; created when paper momentarily exposed to rain was overlaid with a fast-drying pigment. Like many of Kallat’s works, each Rain Study appears like a document from a distant time and space; an effect increased by the enigmatic letters B.C. that denote the duration for which each piece was exposed to the open skies, measured in the number of the breath cycles of the artist.
